It's almost Earth Day!
Every April 22, we celebrate the beauty of the planet we live on, reminding us how important it is to take care of Earth the best we can.
There are so many ways to do this!
Shopping small, shopping local, and making considerate purchases are an easy way to start lowering your carbon footprint.
Here are a few of our Earth Day / Earth Week / Earth Forever(!) shopping picks and tips:
1) Bring a tote bag. EVERYWHERE.
One of the best ways to help the environment is by saying no to plastic! Bring a reusable bag or two wherever you go, so there is no need to ask for a bag to hold the items you need to carry, buy, or borrow. We love this Evanston tote bag, which is designed and screen printed by a small business, and promotes our favorite little city.
2) Pick up a plant. Plant a tree. (You know the drill.)
Plants and trees are SO important to our eco-system. It's no secret that they supply oxygen, helping us breathe. They provide a home to insects, animals, and birds. They bear fruits and seeds and pollen for the world to consume. Plants and trees are freakin' awesome. Here at Stumble & Relish, we are obsessed with air plants. They are the perfect indoor plants for small-space living, super cute, and totally easy to take care of. No soil needed, water a couple times a week, only filtered sunlight needed. Easy peasy. Stop in and peruse our selection of air plants - there are all different sizes to choose from!
3) Buy items made using recycled or up-cycled materials.
We love when we find jewelry, gifts, and stationery made out of recycled material. Like these cool rubber bracelets made of recycled bicycle inner tubes. (They are handcrafted by a maker in Portland, Oregon!) They are not only stylish and comfortable - they kept rubber out of a landfill. You can buy them in store or online here.
4) Buy items made out of eco-friendly and sustainable materials.
Candles are just one item that can serve multiple purposes (but keep in mind, not all candles are created equal!). We carry lots of candles at Stumble & Relish that smell amazing (read: A-M-A-Z-I-N-G) but are also made of soy wax (vs. a wax made of something that isn't plant-derived, like paraffin), are hand-poured by a person (vs. a machine), and are housed in vessels that were recycled and can be washed out and used again, or designed specifically to be used again. Shop online for one of our many candles, or stop in and sniff them all at the store.
